Week 3 : Advanced game @ Bulls vs the Bears
Grey weather but good enough for football. Today we had the Andenne Bears in the Bullring. An unknown quantity to face. Would the Bulls be able to shrug-off last weeks deception of a championship ending tie ? With all players fit and present would they whipe out the defensive errors of last week ? Would the leading offense be able continue razzle-dazzle their opponents defenses ? Well today we saw some good play between the 3rd and 4th ranked teams.

Game 1 saw the Bulls winning the toss and opting for the ball. On the first drive the Offense set the tone and scored with ease. The Bears also showed that their juniors are able to play some power running football, but the Bulls defense was awake today with some clean and hard – tackling play, great coverage by the secondary. At half time the Bulls were leading with 1 TD. The second half saw pretty much of the same…QB Alex passed for 179 yards and 5 TD’s and 3 conversions. He also ran for a 10 yard TD and completed 70 % of his passes. Hisham # 13 caught 1 TD and a conversion. So did our receivers as always with Gaby, Cedric and Mike scoring TD’s. Some great defense with JC # 44 steeling the honours together with Youcef # 40, Maxime # 22 and Simon # 25, Fouad # 82 and Jonathan.

Game 2 Same team, different story … The Bulls were behind by two TDs in the first couple of minutes. With the team still digesting the great onion soup and the lovely hot-dogs they were feeling a « coup de pompe »  . The Bulls defense was staffed by alot of rookies but unable to do anything against a confident Bears Offense. Bulls offense were stopped in their 1st drive and had difficulty in getting up to speed. The bears gaining in confidence went every step of the way. Leading by 9 points going into the second half …the Bears were sensing a victory. The Offense not able to convert their next drive due to an interception. With 8 minutes to go, the teams were level. The tension was mounting. Would this be the first loss for the Brussels Bulls this season ? Suddenly the Bulls defense finally got fired up, and with some great tackling and a fumble recovery gave the advantage to the offense. 3 minutes to go and the offense sealed their 5 th victory ending on a 50-35 score. For a second week in a row we struggled, not being able to impose our Bulldozer football but showing that we play with heart. We faced a stiff junior team (with alot of experience at the senior level).

Apres 8 matches en 5 semaines les Bulls profiteront de 3 semaines pour se reposer avant la mère des confrontations cette saison contre les champions de l’année passé les Black Angels. Les Blacks jouent très fort en ce moment avec la première défense de la ligue et avec une attaque qui puisse marquer 70 points. Donc battre les Black Angels sera très difficile. En outre les Bulls ont plus rien à gagner. Nous ne gagnerons pas le championnat cette année. Les Black Angels par contre eux seront sous pression car ils on tout à perdre…le championnat 2007.

 PHOENIX VS RED ROOSTERS 

Troisième match pour les phoenix qui rencontre leurs homologue wallon de la journée, les Liège Red Roosters.
Les phoenix n'ont pas perdu de temps pour rentrer dans le vif du sujet, alternant les jeux de course et de passe.

La défense quand à elle s'est adaptée rapidement aux courses du run plein centre, obligeant les liegeois à chercher les passes en profondeur.

Une première victoire pour les phoenix par 52 à 14.

Une rencontre riche en adrénaline...

après une courte pause, les Phoenix, motivés par leur victoire contre les Red Roosters, entame un début de match "tonitruand", par un TD.

Les Phoenix ont axé leur jeu sur un système de course, favorisant les coureurs rapides.

La tension était palpable de chaque côtés du terrain, les deux équipes se sentant capable de réaliser le hold-up parfait...

à la pause, les Phoenix mènent à la marque par 15 point d'écard.

Seconde mi-temps plus difficile, accentuée par la fatigue des deux matchs consécutifs. Mais les phoenix ont tenu bon.

A noter que 2 TD ont été refusé pour les phoenix par le duo arbîtral. Le score final est de 51-51.

Un beau dimanche et deux beaux matchs

Il y à comme dans chaque championnat des équipes qui doivent se mesurer, comme un défi, un duel amical certes, mais il faut affronter une équipe de la même ville ou qui est à leur yeux l’équipe qu’il faut battre, et bien c’est le cas entre les Black Angels et les Tigers, pas de haine non juste le faite de battre copains de lycée, qui jouent dans l’équipe adverse. !!!!!

Le match début par un défi des Black Angels qui monte sur le terrain avec les capitaines suivis de deux lignes de joueurs, qui veulent faire voir aux Tigers qui seront les maîtres du terrain….

Notre défense elle ne reste pas qu’a faire un mur face aux Tigers, mais fera des blitz incroyable avec N.FLAMAND #20 et M. SMETS #68 et son frère A.SMET #27, notre petit mais non moins très fort N. PRIEZ #81 nous bloquera leur center parfaitement.

La défense marquera par deux fois 2 TD grâce à nouveau joueur H. GODICHAL # 46 la première fois par un interception et remontera tout le terrain pour marquer et ensuite en deuxième mi-temps par une perte de balle.

L’offense n’en restera  pas là car de nouveau il fallait compter sur notre FB G. LABAT #25 (1TD). Et puis des transformations à 2 pts par K.DEMOITIE #54, L. BEIER #5 et enfin la paire G.DEREINE ET B.BOURON pour encore 3 transformations à 2 pts.

Pour ce match nous ferons monter quelques nouveaux qui feront eux aussi du bon boulot tel que H. LASNI, L. FLABA, SAM, VICTOR, MICKAEL,REDOINE …

Si il y a bien une chose à dire sur nos Black Angels junior, c’est qu’ils aiment ressembler aux Senior…je m’explique, nos joueurs aiment  donner les premiers points mais à leur aise…et puis enfin on branche le diésel et c’est partie pour une démonstration d’offense et aussi de défense.  C’est face à des adversaires qui débutent leur championnat que nous avons à faire, mais de nouveau ce ne sont pas tous des débutant, beaucoup ont joués en senior et certains même font parties de la sélection national. Nous demandons de commencer avec notre offense, face aux Bears.

 Encore une fois cela sera  une démonstration de plays parfaitement exécuté. Notre run Q. DEREINE #22 nous fera encore une fois des courses incroyables, pour nous marquer pendant ce match 2 TD et une transformation à 2 pts. Mais il ne faudra pas oublier que ses coéquipiers ont fait des blocs absolument parfait. Pendant ce match nous pourrons compter encore une fois sur la paire G.DEREINE #9 et B.BOURON #88 qui nous ferons une démonstration de passe et de course, ils nous ferons aussi le plus beau TD de la fin de cette première période avec un touch de 40 yards à une minute de la fin par B.BOURON #88.

 Pendant cette première mi-temps c’est notre défense qui fera un des meilleurs boulot en encaissant aucun point…des jeunes comme M.SMETS #68, H. GODICHAL # 46, N. HOREMANS #19, N. FLAMAND #20, K. ETISOMBA #82, A.SMETS #27 et bien d’autres encore nous ferons une bonne pression contre les Bears.

Leuven…plein soleil, très bonne organisation, entre 80 et 100 spectateurs.
Encore une fois cette année le championnat est de haut niveau et surtout très fairplay. Point de vue arbitrage aucune ne remarque et surtout de bonnes explications de leur part pour expliquer les fautes. 

The Bulls started gameday on a roll of 4 consecutive wins (pre-season included) and was leading the table. Comming into the game our defense had to do without some key players from the linebacker core which gave an opportunity to our rookies to show what they have learnt these past couple of weeks.  Game 1 versus the Red Roosters we knew what to expect seeing that we had won all of our previous confrontations. Our Defense had difficulty in getting the BULLdozer up and running. With 27 tackles the defense we able to controll the Rooster Offense. Their number  # 32 running back did have some nice runs and cuts.  Having no fullback a to our disposal we had to change our offensive gameplan. And we did succesfully. The rushing totalled 77 yards for 2 TD’s. Our nr 1 RB Nike # 23 was forced to leave the field with a dislocated knee when diving for the endzone. The back-up was able to follow in his footsteps # 13 Hisham. Our Air Attack scored 4 TD’s and 2 4 extrapoints with Gabe, Mike and Arnaud each scoring a TD. So did the center Jimmy # 72 catch a pass to score.  The end score was 40 – 24 winning their 5th consecutive game.   Game 2 against the Phoenix would be another kettle of fish. We had the opportunity to watch the Phoenix offense work when they played the Roosters. A power running team which can create a lot of dammage when they cut back and are badly tackled. They can hit and take a hit. A defense up for the punishment. From the first few minutes of the game we knew it was going to be a very offensive game. Every time the Phoenix or the Bulls came on the field there was no real difficulty to score with a Bulls’ offense carrying out their blocking assignments and a Phoenix runningback duo # 87 and # 88 who would constantly cut back, shrug off tackles and make punnishing runs.  The defense which tried hard to get back into the game with a weakened linebacker core had difficulty in getting to grips with weird play (the cut backs, bungled reverses). The backup # 13, Hisham scored 3 TD’s (2 rushing and 1 catch) for a 108 yards, completed with 3 more TD’s by the Arnaud and Gabe with 2 extrapoints from Mike. With a 66 % completion rate for 175 yards QB Alex threw 5 TD’s and 4 extrapoints and his 1st interception in 6 games.  Tied at 51-51…Last play of the game was intercepted by our noseguard # 69 running back for it but … failed in scoring  The game was a tie … 51-51. which means that we will not finnish a perfect season. This game was a clear illustration of the saying « Offense wins games, Defense wins championships …. ».  Next weekend 2 games vs the Andenne Bears @ our field from 13.00.
